SEED PLANTS - 5

PURPOSE: To observe the parts of a typical flower!

MATERIALS NEEDED: Several varieties of flowers, forceps, dissecting scope.

PROCEDURE: MAKE ALL OF YOUR SKETCHES ON THE BACK OF THIS PAPER

  1. Observe the plant that your flower came from!
  2. Observe your flower!
  3. Make a life size sketch of your flower, labeling all of the parts!
  4. Look closely at the reproductive parts of your flower under a dissecting scope!
  5. Sketch what you observe! Label its parts!
  6. Tap some pollen from your flower onto a clean glass slide.
  7. Place two drops of water on the slide and cover with a cover slip
  8. Observe the pollen under both low and high power!
  9. Sketch several pollen grains under both low and high power!
  10. Measure the width of a pollen grain!
