The determination of the Structure suggested how it might serve as genetic information. Proof that the genetic material served as a template for DNA replication confirmed these ideas. DNA controls an organisms phenotype by the synthesis of RNA, a process called RNA transcription. This molecule then functions to convert the nucleic acid sequence into the amino acid sequences of Proteins. Deciphering the Genetic Code showed how a sequence of bases in DNA and RNA could determine a sequence of amino acids in a protein molecule.
