Fall of 2021 will be my 31st year as a secondary science teacher and my 22nd year at W-SR. Before returning to Waverly, I taught in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from 1991-1999. I have taught: General Science, Biology, Biology 2, AP Biology, Environmental Science, Science Issues, Human Anatomy and Chemistry. I have also taught Environmental Science online through the University of Phoenix. I am honored to have been named Wartburg College's 2018 High School Teacher of the Year.
I am a 1991 Graduate of Wartburg College with a degree in Biology. My Masters degree was finished in December of 2008 through the University of Wisconsin - Stout. UW Stout's program is entirely online and has influenced my teaching profoundly! My Masters research investigated the affect of Blended Learning on the achievement and attitudes of high school biology atudents. In addition, I have done graduate work at the University of Iowa, Drake, and UNI. In 2014, I earned a Graduate Certificate in E-Learning and Online Teaching from UW Stout. In the last few years, I have completed two Iowa STEM summer Externships for the DNR and UNI's Tallgrass Prairie Center.
At W-SR, I keep several fish tanks in my classroom. In addition to classroom duties, I was chosen as a lead teacher for the 2015-2016 school year. I have participated in WSR's Technology committee, K-12 Science Curriculum Commitee, Rocky Mountain Alpine Studies trip, and I was a four year member of our schools Reading in the Content area team. I also monitored two local streams for over 10 years as a part of the IOWATER water monitoring program. I was also a three year member of our district's E2T2 team which focused on bringing transformative technology uses to our faculty.
Most recently, I have been focused on Blended Learning. I have traveled Iowa showing others how to teach with a Blended format I have worked with other educators at iPadU in Cedar Rapids, the local 1:1 Conference in Cedar Falls, and the Iowa 1:1 Conference in Des Moines. In addition, I have been honored to be asked to present at the ITEC Conference in Des Moines in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2019.
