PAUL MUGAN - A BRIEF HISTORY

Learn from the mistakes of others, you don't have time to make them all yourself.
- Dr. Don Canfield

Fall of 2011 will be my 21st year as a secondary science teacher and my 13th year at W-SR. I taught previously in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I have taught General Science, Biology, AP Biology, Environmental Science, Science Issues and Chemistry.

I am a 1991 Graduate of Wartburg College. My Masters degree was finished in December of 2008 through the University of Wisconsin - Stout. I have also done graduate work at the University of Iowa, Drake, and UNI.

At W-SR, I keep several fish tanks in my classroom. We have mostly fish, but have also had some turtles now and again. In addition to classroom duties, I have participated in our Eisenhower Funds Committee, Technology committee, The K-12 Science Curriculum Commitee, Rocky Mountain Alpine Studies trip, and I was a four year member of our schools Reading in the Content area team. As a trained IOWATER volunteer, I enjoy working with our high school's stream monitoring efforts. Most recently, I am a member of our district's E2T2 team which is focused on bringing transformative technology uses to our faculty.

Outside of school I enjoy many activities including working out, geocaching, reading, web design, hiking with my dog and container gardening. This fall will be my 12th year as a part-time assistant football coach for Wartburg College. I work with the Tight Ends.

I am originally from Mason City, Iowa. My wife Beth is a math teacher at Tripoli High School. We have one teenage daughter, Anna. Our family is completed with Max the black lab and Flizzy the Yorkie.
